A Prayer and A Vote

I usually attend a Saturday night mass since there are less people and I find it more solemn so I can say a short prayer and can concentrate on listening to the priest.

I decided to wear a shirt and a short, forgetting that there was a dress code; I have to stay outside at the church’s canopy. At least it was a little chilly tonight. I stayed near the huge old oak doors of the church and opposite to me is an old lady, around 80s, sitting on the floor and is wearing a tattered duster under an old school uniform skirt. Both her feet are swollen and she mutters a prayer after each time people pass by her when she asked for some change.

The empty cup she was holding was flown by the cold winds entering the canopy. The cup fell at least 2 feet away from her and she was about to crawl on the church’s floor. I reached for the cup and hand it over to her. That’s when I knew she has poor eyesight as one of her hands reaches for the cup and the other reaching for my hand.

I returned to my old post, back to the opposite side of the church’s door and gaze upon the altar, look up to the Cross and thought the lights carried by the Angels near it went blurry. I closed my eyes and that’s when I felt I tear up a bit.

………………………………………………………….

In the light of the coming The 2010 Philippine Blog Awards, I’m casting my vote to Ms. Xienah’s blog, CHKSLG under the category of Blogger’s Choice Award. I’ve been a visitor of her blog for almost 2 years and her posts never fail to amuse me. Her writing skills and theme are the things that usually get my attention. So I want to congratulate her in advance and I hope she’ll take this award home. Apir!

Lastly to my readers, please if you do have time. Cast a vote too! Thanks!

I like the post.

It is a chilling thing to see, as I
Have seen - a man go down into the grave
Without a tear, or even an altered eye:
Oh! sadder far than when fond women rave,
Or children weep, or aged parents sigh,
O'er one whom art and love doth strive to save
In vain: man's heart is soothed by every tone
Of pity, saying "he 's not quite alone."

Alam mo, there's this old lady i always pass by sa divisoria.. one time binigyan ko sya ng tinapay hindi nya kinain.. kasi nagtago ako sa likod ng poste at pinagmasdan sya. nilagay nya lang sa bag nya. hmm.. siguro di kaya ng ipen nya. then the next day mamon naman ang binigay ko sa kanya para malambot, peor hindi ko na tiningnan kasi baka ma frustrate lang ako.. hehe bait bait mo naman.. we have the same utopian dream.

Believe it or not, as bad as my image seems to be, these stuff touch a certain chord in me. I hate staring poverty right in the face, it reminds me of how savage life can be.

Ish this is a very touching story. Everytime i think about poverty i always associate it with these kind of people. If i am only rich, if i could only help i would, yet sometimes i feel lazy of embracing such responsibilities.

I am sad. Really. Giving alms are not enough to stop her suffering.

Where are the families of these people?i know how painful it is being left alone by those you love the most!
