Rewind then Fast Forward

I was looking through our pictures awhile ago. Me and my high school friends, you see, went out last weekend. I need a time off from med books and decided to meet them after eons (just kidding, maybe yeah, a year or half, sorry ako ng busy).

“We grew up so fast” I told myself and smiled as I browsed our pictures. And then it got me thinking about relationships, our relationships… our unconventional relationships. We may not be like our batch mates; getting married, settling down, and having kids.

When we were in high school, I remember someone told me “all the good ones are taken, so hurry”. Pathetic as it may sound, admit it, having a relationship in high school, aside from having those academic achievements was essential. Maybe it’s part of fitting in or having an identity? (sorry that’s what I view life then, so don’t judge me)

But now that we’ve matured a little, we have different takes; it’s not just having relationships. It’s not just satisfying what you need, to love and be loved, cause there are different types of relationships. Unlike our batch mates having those traditional relationships, me and my friends still believe in fairytales, the unwritten type of ones though, like a princess falling in love with another princess, a prince to another, a princess torn between two prince, a prince who’s still enjoying his single life and will have a relationship when the right one comes, a princess marrying a rockstar, a princess living far away from his prince, a prince loving an eccentric princess and a prince who’s new to a new kingdom, is still learning but can finally say have a direction because of someone.

I bet to one of my friends last weekend, who among us will get married soon. And we laughed.

We have different takes, but as long as we believe into something (and that is love no matter how odd it is) and most importantly is to be happy.

Me and My Big Mouth

I was about to go on a birthday party somewhere in Tomas Morato last Saturday when I remembered earlier that I said yes on a singlehood party celebrated by my friend with my high school peers. I was saddened by the news a week before of what happened to her. I thought she has one of the best relationship among us, you know the type of relationship that beat the odds? And after I heard she’s blissfully in love then, I was happy for her. But really some things are not meant to be and I bet she’s better off being strong and brave rather than being fooled and played.

That’s not really my post but I have to make a good introduction though. Hehehe

So, I was about to come to this birthday party, in fact there were two invitations for me. But like most of you who’s been through this situation, you have to go to the one who invited you first and the one you said yes first. But for sure if I attended either I will enjoy each company. Unlike some whose reason for not attending is “I will not enjoy, so why bother?”

A friend texted me Saturday morning asking me what gift should we give to our friends who’re celebrating their birthday. I asked him, do we really need to? He said, yes! In fact he explained that our girl friends from our group should start receiving gifts from us male members since they (the girls) never forgets to give us one.

I said ok. I’ll pick up something somewhere and I’ll just share the tab with him.

And adding to that message, I asked him, “are you coming?”

And once he replied, “SAAN?” I knew I was doomed.

I waited for another sms from him, and when it appeared it says, may party ba? Saan? Hindi naman ako invited.=[

I asked him if he didn’t get any sms from the celebrant cause I am sure he’s on the list. I’m pretty sure he’s on the list or he’ll be invited.

He said, it’s ok. He’s kinda busy and he needs to finish reading something.

And mean me, told him that, I’m not coming to the birthday party either. I have to come to a different party with my high school friends the same night. I told him that he doesn’t have to worry because he’s invited to my birthday party and that’s 8 months earlier. Heheheh.

He said, hehe, ok enjoy ka lang. wag na tayo bumili ng gift. Hehehe!=]

Hahaha, that really made me laugh!

To explain the celebrant’s side, this is my hypothesis.

We were a group then because we entered med school the same year, we had the same section, same subjects. But due to some circumstances like reshuffling of sections and some failing subjects, some were already ahead of us, and most of us from that group were a semester behind. To the person that texted me, we are really close, since day one of med school up to now. We’re like brothers here. Maybe the celebrant didn’t really neglect of inviting some of them that were ahead of us. It was meant to be a small gathering though and the celebrant wanted to have it to people she’s associated or she can see every day. The one’s that she has lunches with, she talks face to face or she can relate to. Since it’s been a year now maybe lack of communication or having no commonality between the two is one of the reasons. And as some may say, I don’t know if it’s true, that you can be in a group but that doesn’t mean you can be really close to everyone.

I hope with what happened everything will be ok or it will pass just like nothing.

I really enjoyed that Saturday night though. I really miss my high school friends and few drinks and lots of bonding compensated the time that we missed.

Tattle Tales at a Wake

Right after my exams last Tuesday I immediately went home. I packed my travel bag with my uniforms and grabbed whatever’s gonna fit to it. I really miss home and you know how it feels after a very long exam week that you can stay and just lay in your own bed or watch TV up to 3am (I insist of not having a TV here in my dorm, that’s why I’m excited to see a TV. lol).

Two and a half hours later (around 4:30pm) I was home and I saw my parents at our living room. I surprised them and gave them a hug, which I rarely do. We talked a little and then right after I made a snack for us. At around 7 pm we ate dinner! Wahhhh! I really miss home cooked meals. (Sinigang na hipon at daing na galunggong! Sarap! Heheh)

At around 8pm I met my highschool friends, my balikbayan friends, Mr. Milan, Ms. Tokyo and Ms. Jeddah (muning). We went to the wake of Mr. Milan’s Grandfather. It’s been a long time since the first two were back here, and the latter, Ms. Jeddah was back here last February. Hehe
We talked a lot and reminisce a lot and typical me, I didn’t talked much. Maybe I was still tired and sleepless and maybe I don’t really like recalling to them my highschool. As I told you before the only thing that I really liked on that part of my past are my friends. We gossip about the power couples of our batch, the couples that after so many years are still together; we talked about ex crushes and ex lovers, the people who made eruptions of pimples and caused raging hormones since then; we talked about our professors and our negligence back then. We laughed and really had fun. I even had my five minutes Q and A about medical related stuffs. I really enjoyed that because unaware I could answer their questions.

But the ambiance changed when we talked about our present relationships, one wants to settle after 2 years with her love one; one doesn’t believe in marriage; the other one is very much happy in a relationship; and the other one is as for now enjoying his company with someone. (lam nyo na kung sino ako jan. lol). It got messier between two of my friends, they had an argument but I won’t go in to details about that. But when I got home, separately they asked my opinion, but I can’t really answer them back and made them feel they’re both wrong.

So here it goes. First I have to admit sometimes I’m pompous or had criticize someone in some ways, but I was trying to be funny or at least I have to think of it if it’s alright to say or not. Secondly, there are things that are meant to say in public but if you think it will be hurtful to another person, just don’t say it or at least keep it to yourself. Lastly, I thought most of us grownups thinks the same. I mean, as we get older in terms of finding that special someone we looked pass the face or the physical aspect. I am in no position of criticizing a friend’s preference since I’m not good-looking myself. And as we grow older we prefer that someone would love us in return and accept what we are. I love my friends and that’s no secret and I speak so highly of them, but that night, that made me feel that some of us just don’t grow up or some of us stays on that era even though they were from different places. It felt like we were stuck in highschool.

To muning, I’m sorry if I kept my silence but I know you know what I was thinking. Gonna miss you again=] Now, I'm back in my dorm, we still have to wait for the promotion boards, and I think i have to see someone before the vacation starts =]

Case of a Past Love

All of us had our high school love. You know the one that makes you go to school then, the one that you wished you danced with on your prom, the one that caused constellations of acne on your face. The one you thought you will end up with… I had that special someone as well. I really loved her, in fact for a very long time.

We had a very not so good history and that’s between the two of us. This post is not to hate her but I want to thank her. Last Saturday I went to a friend’s (Ms. A) despedida party. I knew she’s gonna be there. But since a very good friend came back here in the Philippines (Ms. J) and we haven’t seen each other for so long, I have to be there. I had realizations that, I have to grow and face what I have to face.

I met Ms. J at McDonald’s; I had my sprite float and waited for 15 minutes or so. We then go on to Ms. A’s party at her house; as usual the food was great and Ms. A’s parents were still the same, accommodating and caring of us. 30 minutes after SHE’s there. My past… she’s still the same, pretty.

It was a bit uncomfortable at first. We just smiled then we laughed and then took some pictures. We became at ease, talked about what happened for the last 5 months, asked how she’d been. She showed her man’s picture. To be honest I missed that, our normal conversations. We talked about our families, what keeps us busy and what plans we have.

5 months ago I was crying and asked why I made a fool of myself AGAIN. Why did I STILL expect something that I shouldn’t? Why did I still love her… questions answered a month after that, I saw a picture of her and her man. They looked so happy together. I know she’s happy and got what she wants. She’ll never be happy with me and I realized that I have to move on… badly!

As of now you all know. I did. =]

We went home together (because we live on the same town). I sat next to her and on our way, she asked if I have someone. I told her I was going out with Cath. I smiled and I know I blushed.

Now I can really say… Case closed…

This post is for my friend Ms. J! Joyce, I really really miss you and I’m glad we’ve seen each other again. You see Joyce is my twin in high school. hehe! She just knows so much about me and she’s really a family. She recently read one of my post and commented as “Muning”. I want to thank her for everything. 11 years of friendship and still counting. Joyce made me realize one important thing that night. Not all of us had a great highschool and I have to put aside all the ugly things that happened and be thankful of what remains… great friends like her. I’m happy Joyce found that someone else as well. To Joyce and Puccini, cheers! Love you both!=]

Three's a Party

Last 25th three friends decided to have a small get together. Most of my High school friends are working or studying in abroad now. Me and my high school friends are the type that doesn’t really require that we MUST see each other so often. We are the type that goes out without obliging each other. Three of us are left here, EA who’s working in a credit card firm, he’s usually sent to HK 2weeks every month. KL is a soon to be successful singer/actress and appeared on some TV shows now. I’m both proud of them. I received an sms from EA and told me if I was available on that day, I told him it’s my mom’s bday but I think I can go out for 3-4 hours max. It sounded so important since EA sms me if “are we really close?” “Rate it to 1-10”, “how can u say we’re close, we don’t see each other often”. To be honest I was a bit irritated. I told him that for me friendship is not measured or rate by 1-10 nor important of how often you see each other but simply remembering them everyday, every minute is enough.

We went to KL’s house and we decided to have a drink at 1:30 pm. Hehehe. (We don’t really mind how early or late as long as we drink) hehehe. It’s been long since we catch up really. They had a mix of rum and lime, while I had 5 light beers. Few laughs and 3 light beers after, we got serious and started pouring what’s bothering us. KL has a gym rat/model bf and was a bit worried that she feels she’s tied up in the neck. Her bf is 6 years senior to her and the guy is quite a bit officious to her. She loves him and the other way around but he’s the first bf of my friend and she thinks he’s the one. Now, she’s a bit worried that she never experienced being with someone else. She secretly had an MU with a guy she work on a set of her TV show. Secretly experiencing how it really feels. But experiencing it with a guy who also has a gf. She’s a devout Catholic and her parents instilled to her mind how sacred SEX is , so she gave a big NO to her bf in that area. We told her that her bf has to respect her decisions and never force her. Also, we told her that she has to cut her relationship to the 2nd guy.

After her revelation, I told them what was bothering me. I told them that I failed some subject and have to take med school 1 semester late. I told them that I am ashamed to my parents, my siblings and to them. That it all started when I was hospitalized last September due to depression. I told them how sorry I was for not telling them and told them I’m ok now.

Two more light beers and EA has to guzzle a jigger of rum/lime mix to open up. EA is the funny guy in our group. Always making fun of us and himself. He’s a jokester but never really opened up his lovelife. We don’t require a friend to open up. If he/she feels to open, that’s the only time we know. He had a gf in high school that ended not so well. That’s was the last I heard. He was a bit red this time and opened he’s in a relationship. He’s with someone from a chatroom, he went to the place, have some drink and “did the deed”. He said he’s happy and been taking care of. I immediately remembered last time that I talked to EA and told me he was in a relationship and I was telling him not to tell a joke. But I never really though he’s with a HIM as well. He showed “his” picture on his cp. And I look to EA and can see, he’s really happy. It came to me and told him of how brave of him to tell us. He told us that he is hesitant to open up and if we had an idea ever since. I told him I was not aware of it, and told him that what’s important is he told us and that he will not get hurt by his other half, or else! Hehe. Ea went out to pee and KL told me immediately, she had a hunch way before and is happy for EA. I told her, I’m really happy for EA as well.

You see, friendship is not merely measured of how long you know each other but the trust that was built on that span. A trust that was given without any questions asked. A trust that doesn’t oblige each other. A trust that is not measured by a scale of 1-10. I love my friends, you all know this by now. I’m not a showy person but I show it just by sincerely listening to them. Because for me, what they share is more important on what I have to share. I respect them on their decisions and if they ask, I can give an advice.

EA and KL, I love you both=)
